Kingdom of the Southern Isles
This small 12 year old kingdom is ruled by their favorite rebel, King Phillip the Stormrider and focuses almost entirely on trade as a way of life. Phillip organized the various shipyards and independent captains into a successful rebellion against the Great Khan. Using their overwhelming superiority on the sea the rebellion was swift. The few 'Ocean Khans' being rather weak, the islanders both crewed and captained the overwhelming majority of ships claimed by the Great Khan. The finishing blow of the rebellion was a series of strikes led by Phillip himself during the stormy season that shattered the remnants of Khanate ocean power, leading to Phillip's nickname and clinching his bid to be the first king of the new country. The state of war lingered for years after that but the Khans were completely unable to bring any sort of real pressure on the new nation who had free reign to raid and trade with Rhen, the north, and even some of the Khans who cared more about their own tribe than showing solidarity.
The three primary islands are named for the legendary 3 brothers who first settled the islands; Lanos, Irahal, and Telane. The island of Maidens Rest is named for their sister. Lanos houses the capital and largest port, Irahal has surprisingly high quality mines and is the center of shipbuilding, Telane is the oddly the least developed and most profitable island being home to most of the agriculture of the three and specializing in lucrative cash crops like exotic fruits, coffee, and spices. All of which are major elements of islander culture. Maidens Rest is claimed as part of the Kingdom but largely uninhabited, sometimes called 'the neglected sister' it's geography is ill suited to either building or agriculture and is frequently scoured by the most violent storms.
