the "Isle of Beasts"
The founding of civilization on the isle is an epic tale of the defeat of a fearsome evil. The founding started from an unlikely alliance of minotaurs and strix. Though the original force included other small groups convinced of the danger. Noteworthy groups were some Gnomish inventors, and a contingent of Orcs from the world spine. These others had homes on the mainland to return to, but cordial relations remain from that time. Relations with the people of Lyr came later and the isle has benefited from having solid allies on the mainland in that relationship. Imperial attempts to cleanse the island have been frustrated by it’s distance and the ferocity of it’s defenders. Gathering more and more of the peoples exiled from the mainland, the capitol is now a significant city with excellent craftspeople, a well established culture of accepting magic users, and a willingness to explore. Which led to the vast minotaur ship Hammer of the North Wind was the first official diplomatic contact between the continents of Visteria and Eolanara.
Entrance to the capitol from the port passes through a monument called the Plaza of Lost Homes which features standing stones, murals and carvings of the places that races and clans left behind on the mainland.
For the Minotaurs: A single huge monolith 80’ tall, with only a rough finish (they have no records or concrete descriptions)
For Strix: 3 carved stone walls, one depicting plains and foothills of their land pre-empire, one of their early empire location featuring clashes with orcs as well as humans of the empire. Third is a wreck scratched and gouged by weapons and claws over the years it’s been in place. Strix warriors still consider it a rite of passage to take their swipe at the wall.
Kithrim: A recent addition off to one side, is simply an oval set on the ground, half rough shaped half flawlessly polished with a perfectly straight vertical line dividing the two sides.
Kendr: A carved stone garden, sculptures of exotic plants filled in with stacked stones and live plants.
Lyr kin: An 8’ tall burly catfolk, arms crossed in a defiant pose on a short pedestal. The pedestal darkened and polished by the frequent touching of kin of Lyr running hands along it as they arrive in the port.
Kobold: Tiny shrine in a corner, colored rocks with runes of dragons and other beings of power.
Plane-Touched: A sculpture of a stylized layout of the planes.
Kitsune: A circular wall carved with murals of foxes, crafting scenes, forested hills, etc.
