Dominion of Filan
An ancient settlement formed from a collection of tribes of humans and halflings almost completely separate from the peoples south of the world spine. Their oldest myths tell of a world ending disaster that caused them to flee overseas from their distant land before finding the northern regions of the continent. Where that was was is lost to time. On Visteria they were a mildly reclusive group, content to maintain a modest territory until imperial attention reached them. The conflict that followed was intense and costly to both sides but brief, with Filan quickly surrendering. The long stability was no hardship, and Visterian culture never quite took hold past superficial levels. Filante culture focuses on its ancestors, the importance of family, and respect for the land that supports them. It also tends to have a deep respect for history and a love of stories.
The region is extremely fertile, known for it's great variety of fruit trees and is the origin of many plants not seen elsewhere on the continent. Unfortunately it also has a tendency to catch great storms that spiral in from the northern ocean on a regular basis. It is said that Filan brought coffee to Visteria and then worked with the elves south of them in Nordhaz who had perfect land for it.
